What is the rate of AIDS infection in that area? How many people in your county are
infected with HIV? How many new cases were there last year (you can get this information
from the county public health department)?

  1. AIDS affects both women and men across the world and the rate increases as time passes because of the transmitters and carriers surrounding the areas. The rate of infected individuals that carry the disease varies from different areas. In this specific area, 90 percent of the prostitutes working around the roads carry and transmit the disease (Preston 382). Most of the infected individuals die carrying the disease and doctors approximate that "as many as 30 percent of all men and women of childbearing age are infected with HIV" (Preston 382), that is in Mount Elgon. It is said by doctors that here in California, one in every 268 people are infected with HIV and most die if not treated to immediate therapy. Approximately, there were 15,901 people living with aids in San Francisco last year making one of the largest HIV- positive populations in the US. AS time passes, there are new findings of the disease as new discoveries progress but as of now, more and more populations are being affected by this deadly disease.

    1. Hi Cassandra, what is the average life span of someone who has AIDS in the US versus someone who has AIDS in a country in Africa? Who contributes to this difference?

  2. It is always amazing to see not only the infection rate of a virus, but also the rise of that specific infection rate. Obviously, population growth has affected the infection rate. Since the human population is creating offspring at higher rate than people are dying, then that means that there is more humans for viruses to infect, ultimately increasing virus related deaths and virus infection rate. Even from the year that HIV has originated in the media (about 1980's or 1970's; No one is extremely sure of when exactly it emerged greatly) to only 1999, the number of deaths and infections are eye opening: "The World Health Organization's best estimates are that there were 5.8 million new HIV infections in 1999 for a grand total of 33.4 million people who are HIV+" (University of Hartford).
